Internet Connection Sharing
with broadband routers

If you have a cable or DSL modem, broadband routers are the simply the best way to share your home internet connection between multiple computers.  Broadband routers offer a great combination of security, flexability, and easy management.
Routers use an internet sharing method called NAT or network address transltion.  NAT not only shares your internet connection, it acts like a basic firewall keeping most hackers out of your LAN.
Since a broadband router provides a firewall between your network and the Internet, you can share files and printers between your computers without worrying about complex security issues.
Broadband routers are known by other phrases:  cable modem router, dsl router, or broadband gateway.  Don't be confused, they almost always mean the same thing.

Great Article
I spent the past couple of months reading articles to understand how to share my internet connection. I always got confused by what I need to do from the articles to make the connection. I want to thank you that your article has cleared my confusion. From your flow charts, it did not take me five minutes to know that, I only need a broadband router (having so may names but meaning the same thing) and the necessary adopters and cables to start sharing my home internet connection. I think you should be a teacher in the school because there much you have to benefit mankind. I am writing much because you saved me time reading further articles.
Thank you.
adding Airport/Macbook to existing Cable Modem by Keri - 10/26/2006 8:07:00 PM

adding Airport/Macbook to existing Cable Modem
This is a bit confusing, but any help would be appreciated.

I originally had a Gateway PC running Windows XP Home that connected to the internet using an external cable modem.

I now need to add to this internet connection an Apple Macbook using Airport Express.

I can't figure out how to make both computers accessible to the internet at the same time. I know it's possible - I've seen it done.

Thank you,

Keri
